Access Control System Installation in Hong Kong
KNS SYSTEM LTD (傑成系統有限公司) is a licensed security systems installer and distributor in Hong Kong, trading online as SECURITY HONG KONG LTD (香港防盜). We hold Security Company Licence No. 1507 (Type III: installation, maintenance and repair of security devices and design of systems incorporating security devices), issued by the Security and Guarding Services Industry Authority, and we are Registered Electrical Contractor No. 029394. Site survey, installation and maintenance are carried out by our own engineers; we do not subcontract.

What an access control system includes
- Readers or terminals: card, face recognition, fingerprint, PIN or QR code
- Door controller and management software, with access rights by person, door and time
- Electric locks (magnetic locks or electric strikes) and door contacts
- Exit buttons and emergency break-glass units
- Backup power for controllers and locks

Choosing a credential
| Credential | Suits | Points to note |
|---|---|---|
| Face recognition | Main office doors, factory gates | Liveness detection, backlight at entrances, privacy notice |
| Fingerprint | Back-office and inner doors | Less suitable for dusty or oily work sites |
| Cards (IC, ID, DESFire, FeliCa) | Multiple doors, visitor cards | Card type and cloning risk |
| PIN or QR code | Temporary visitors | Should not be the only factor |
| Interlock and anti-passback | Server rooms, vaults, laboratories | Must release on fire alarm signal |
How the price is worked out
Access control is quoted per project rather than as a fixed package. The main factors are the number of doors, the credential type, the lock type, the controller and software, cable runs, and any interface with the fire alarm. We provide a free site survey and a written, itemised quotation.
Fire safety and privacy
- Doors on escape routes must release on a fire alarm signal or power failure, with emergency break-glass units, so that no one can be locked in.
- Fingerprint and face data are personal data under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. Assess whether biometrics are necessary, tell staff how the data is used, and offer an alternative such as a card.
- The behaviour of each door when the network or power fails should be agreed at design stage.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a licensed company to install it in Hong Kong?
Yes, if the work is done for reward. Installing, maintaining or repairing security devices for others is Type III security work under the Security and Guarding Services Ordinance (Cap. 460). The company needs a Security Company Licence and the workers need a Security Personnel Permit. KNS SYSTEM LTD holds Security Company Licence No. 1507.
Can existing staff or student cards be used?
It depends on the card type and the formats the readers support. We test existing cards during the site survey; if they are compatible, no new cards are needed.
Will access control block a fire escape?
It must not. Doors on escape routes are designed to release on a fire alarm signal or power failure, and emergency break-glass units are fitted.
Is face recognition allowed for office access in Hong Kong?
It can be used, but face data is personal data under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. Assess necessity, inform staff, and offer an alternative such as a card.
What happens if the network goes down?
It depends on the terminals’ offline storage and the lock power supply. How each door behaves during a network or power failure should be agreed at design stage.
Can you take over a system installed by another company?
Yes. We inspect the existing readers, controllers and locks first. Some older Wiegand readers can be reused through a compatible controller or converter, after checking the bit format and wiring.
